Garnaut’s forty year climate strategy is political and environmental folly

Australian Greens’ climate change spokesperson, Senator Christine Milne, said today Professor Ross Garnaut’s preference for long-term emission budgets rather than a mandatory 2020 emissions’ reduction target is a climate cop-out.

“A 2050 target is an excuse for further delays.  Climate science demands strong action sooner rather than later.  Climate change is accelerating faster than the predictions and will require major reductions in emission volumes for which a forty year budget will not provide,” Senator Milne said. Rudd’s interest in the homeless commendable but State Government must do more

Sylvia Hale MLC, the NSW Greens spokesperson on housing, has commended the Prime Minister for promising to improve services for the homeless and for ordering a White Paper on the problem.

“It has been a long time since a senior Federal politician has taken any genuine interest in the plight of homeless people - the forgotten people. However, actions speak louder than words.

“The Greens want to see - and all those who work in the frontline homelessness services want to see - a properly-funded Supported Accommodation and Assistance Program and adequate and affordable long-term housing,” said Ms Hale. (more…)

Welcome to the website for the Greens in Palerang, who comprise the Braidwood Greens and some members of the Queanbeyan-Monaro Greens local groups. These groups run joint campaigns in the state seat of Monaro, and together with the Eurobodalla and Bega Greens groups, in the federal seat of Eden-Monaro.

Green policies are based on the four green principles of:
  • Social and economic justice
  • Ecological sustainability
  • Peace and non violence
  • Grassroots democracy
These principles are at the foundation of everything we do, from our local activities and the way we operate in our local group to our representation at the local government level.
