Auditor-General should investigate school building cost allegations

The Greens are calling on NSW Education Minister Verity Firth to refer claims of inflated construction costs in NSW public schools to the state’s financial watchdog.

Commenting on a story in today’s Sunday Telegraph (‘Millions wasted at every school,’ p. 14), Greens NSW MP John Kaye said: “The $3.3 billion flowing to NSW public schools from the Rudd government’s Building the Education Revolution will provide a welcome relief from decades of under-funding of capital works.

“It will also create an important stimulus to the economy and a boost to jobs in the construction sector.

“Allegations that costs have been inflated are an inevitable result of the rushed timetable. (more…)

Welcome to the website for the Greens in Palerang, who comprise the Braidwood Greens and some members of the Queanbeyan-Monaro Greens local groups. These groups run joint campaigns in the state seat of Monaro, and together with the Eurobodalla and Bega Greens groups, in the federal seat of Eden-Monaro.
