Productivity Commission: the world is moving to price pollution & support renewables

The Productivity Commission report for the Multi-Party Climate Committee shows that major countries are moving to transform their economies with a combination of carbon pricing and direct support for sunrise industries such as renewable energy, The Greens said today.

The report shows that a wide range of climate policies and industry measures are in place in all countries analysed: China, the USA, the UK, South Korea, Japan, Germany and New Zealand.

“In a serious debate, this report would help finally put to rest the ridiculous notion that Australia might be moving ahead of the world in putting a price on pollution,” Australian Greens Deputy Leader, Senator Christine Milne, said. (more…)

NSW Govt all hot air on unflued gas heaters

The O’Farrell government has left NSW public school classrooms stuck with dangerous fumes from gas heaters for yet another winter, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye. (‘Controversial school heaters to last another winter’ SMH,9 June, page 3).

Dr Kaye said: “When they were in Opposition, the Coalition loudly criticised Labor’s failure to announce a timetable to remove all 52,000 unfilled gas heaters from NSW public schools.

“After just two months in government the same delay and excuses continue.

“Many students in cold climate areas will have to wait at least two years to escape the toxic and irritatingĀ  fumes in their classrooms. Teachers, parents, students and health advocacy groups are still waiting for a commitment to a timetable to remove the heaters. (more…)

Welcome to the website for the Greens in Palerang, who comprise the Braidwood Greens and some members of the Queanbeyan-Monaro Greens local groups. These groups run joint campaigns in the state seat of Monaro, and together with the Eurobodalla and Bega Greens groups, in the federal seat of Eden-Monaro.
